Update: Laramie (1959)

I found 2 more interesting and even better scenes in a German trailer. So I don’t know from what episodes they are.

Nice light brown and blue shirts. Handsome actors. Not sure about their names. Pic 2 probably showing the main character Andy, played by Dennis Holmes (although he looks younger). Pic 1 probably showing him as well in a later episode? Season 1+2 are b&w.

Still rating at least 6.

Main entry at

Bonanza – s14e3

Western series starring Lorne Greene
-Year: 1959-1973
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: teen boys ~14-18
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: often
-Rating: 7/10
-Rating: *******
-Comment: Next to Mitch Vogel, there are several other (famous) teen boys acting in this 1972 episode “The Initiation”. Ron Howard (pic 3 on left), Nicolas Beauvy (pic 2), James Van Patten (pic 4 on right ?), Alfred Barker Jr. and Sean Kelly (both also in “The Cowboys 1972” like Nicolas Beauvy), Jeff Smart (“Bless the Beasts & Children”) and some more.

Several scenes of them. Many wearing vests and hats.

I recently find this by searching for Hog Wild (1974) starring Nicolas Beauvy in wet bib overalls (other blog rating 7, still missing pics).

Very interesting, but some are quite old.

Rating 6-7. Main entry, previously rating up to 5

Take Me to Town

Western, comedy film. Ann Sheridan
-Year: 1953
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boys ~5, 7, 9 ?
-Available on DVD: no
B&W or color: color
-I own: no, partly TV recording ?
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: 3 young, blonde boys (motherless) in nice Western clothes and hats. Not sure about their names. One is probably Mickey Little (*1941, “Annie Oakley”, Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriett), others maybe Jimmy Karath (1942-2014) and Jerry Wayne. The latter one is credited as boy on IMDb but born in 1916. Probably another mistake there. The 3rd boy (on right ?) is obviously Lee Aaker (*1943, “Hondo“, The Brush Roper), up to rating 8.

Interesting movie, but I only have checked it roughly. I think, I have seen it many years ago. The boys also wore red striped bathing costumes.

Rating 5-6 for now. Boys are very young. Needs to be rechecked the next airing. I think not officially on DVD.

The Man from the Alamo

Western starring Glenn Ford
-Year: 1953
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Carlos ~13, boy, girl
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: medium- ?
-Rating: 4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Marc Cavell (1939-2004) as Mexican boy Carlos in typical Mexican clothes (pic 2). Also at least a younger boy (maybe Erik Nelson) and girl (Patsy Weil ?) in at least 2 scenes. Pictured at the end.

Has been aired last week, but I missed most of it. I don’t like the Mexican teen boy in black, curly hair. The younger kids are more of interest.

But rather few scenes (of the younger kids).

So rating 3-4 only.

Update 2: Hondo (1953)

Yesterday, I have finally seen this John Wayne Western completely.

Lee Aaker is very handsome but small. Blonde hair, almost a bowl cut. Rather few, but good scenes of him in the first half and no jeans.

Also a brief riding scene, I previously not knew. Good plot and some funny scenes. He was knocked down when shooting (pic 1).

Still rating 8.

2nd half in jeans, also headshots

Hondo (1967) series, rating 7

Cattle Queen of Montana

Western starring Barbara Stanwyck
-Year: 1954
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Sierra Nevada ~46
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating: 2/10 ?
-Rating: **
-Comment: At least Barbara Stanwyck as Sierra Nevada Jones, the Cattle Queen in dark blue and also dark brown pants, a Cowboy hat and a gun belt. Also riding (in both pants).

I don’t remember the complete movie and don’t noticed younger actors. I found it some time ago.

Rating 2-3 for now only. Typical western, at least with a strong woman.

Also starring Ronald Reagan and Jack Elam.

Santa Claus (1959)

Family fantasy film
-Year: 1959
-Country: Mexico
-Who in clothing: boys, girls ~5-8 ?
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low+
-Rating: 2/10
-Rating: **
-Comment: Some young and very young Mexican boys and girls in typical Mexican clothes and some few US Cowboys kids and several other kids of some other nations including Chinese and a boy in Lederhosen. Girls mainly in dark pigtails.

Has recently been aired in the German Schlefaz movie series (worst movies of all times).

The movie is indeed unusual and poor. But interesting for these days. There are some movies which are even worse.

Kids are also very young. Rather few scenes of interest. Partly shown from a distance.

So rating 2 only. Soon on my Lederhosen blog (rating 3).

Gunsmoke (1955) s20e23

Some boys and I think girls as well (Basques) in I think s20e23. Different hats.

Basques are quite rare in a Western. More common are Mexicans.

There are definitely better episodes. Only one more in this series to come.

For this rating 3-4. Main entry rating up to 9

Next post in January.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my readers!

Gunsmoke (1955) s20e19

At least 2 boys in I think s20e19 (or 18). One younger boy is being baptized in the lake. An older boy runs away before being baptized. Typical pants with suspenders. Also showing some girls. Reminds me of a very similar scene in The Waltons.

I missed most of this episode and can’t say much more.

Also previously Lance Kerwin in s20e17. Update with pic on my bib overalls blog, rating 9.

Update: King of the Wild Stallions

Finally, I have received this DVD. Rating (8)-9 was correct. Jerry Hartleben “3:10 to Yuma” is indeed very good and many scenes in different clothes with him. (Of course jeans and bib overalls would even be better.)

Beige, soft cotton pants with and without red brown suspenders and Cowboy hat, green shirt and some other interesting pink and flowerded shirts. Also the other half in soft, grey, checkered cotton pants, I think riding in both.

I prefer the beige pants but also good sitting in the grey ones (rear view) and often been trapped in the butt crack. Riding scenes mainly from a distance.

Good scenes at 18 minutes, 34-41, 57 and also later. I have seen the complete movie once at regular speed but will rewatch it again soon and at slow speed. Pic 2 is at 18 minutes, pics 1+4 in the middle, pic 3 near the end.

DVD is a RC0 DVDr with excellent, remastered image quality. No extras. The main plot is quite good, partly Lassie-like and including a wild horse, but somehow it could have been made better. I wonder if anybody buys this not because of Jerry.

Main entry (nothing much there)
