-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color

-Comment: Some boys in cotton bib overalls but few and brief scenes only. And also girls and grown up’s in Western clothes. Nice school scenes.

Also on my bib overalls blog, rating 5 as well.

Part of the “Love Comes Softly” movie series, rating 3-5. For more infos about this and other movies, please visit my other blog. Also soon on my pigtails blog.

Another interesting Janette Oke series is “When Calls the Heart”, but this is set in 1910 though Western town setting.

Grand Champion (2002)

grandchampion2grandchampion

Family film
-Year: 2002
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boys, girl
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low+ ?
-Rating: 6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: At least one girl and a lady in beige bib overalls, (on my other blog, rating 5) and some boys in jeans and Cowboy hats. A very young boy at the beginning in light brown chaps. Also ladies and of course men wearing Cowboy hats. Some few riding scenes (not in overalls).

Nice but I think a typical ranch/rodeo movie set in Texas. Both pics from the trailer.

I have to recheck it more carefully the next broadcasting. Probably not worth buying on DVD? Starring Jacob Fisher as Buddy (pic 2 on the right ?)

But for now even rating 6-7.

Smoke (1970)

Disney film. Ron Howard
-Year: 1970

-Who in clothing: Chris 14
-Available on DVD: VHS only
B&W or color: color
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: ~15 yo Ronny Howard as 14 yo Chris wearing a black Cowboy hat, jeans and a beige shirt.

I don’t know/ don’t remember the complete movie. Obviously few Western scenes.

A typical boy/dog Disney movie of it’s time.

Rating 5 for now only.

Gummo

Drama
-Year: 1997
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boys ~6-10
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: very low ?
-Rating: 4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Some boys shirtless in shorts and cowboys hats. One younger boy in a vest. One older boy with pink bunny ears.

Maybe a quite interesting and unusual movie, but I assume rather few scenes.

And it’s not a Western.

So rating 3-4 only.

Mickey’s Wild West

mickeyswildwest1928bmickeyswildwest1928

Mickey McGuire short film. Mickey Rooney
-Year: 1928
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boys ~5-11 ?
-Available on DVD: no ?
B&W or color: b&w
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating: 4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Several kids including Mickey Rooney (obviously 2 hats at the same time) in Western clothes at least in this episode. I think one girl (tomboy). Probably chaps and riding scenes.

In total, there are 78 Mickey McGuire short films. The earlier ones, including this one are silent films.

Very nice, Our Gang like comedy series. Also some nice scenes in bib overalls (other blog rating 7-(8). Maybe someone can identify an actor there?

For Western scenes rating 4-5 for now.

Take Me to Town

takemetotown1953

Western, comedy film. Ann Sheridan
-Year: 1953
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boys ~5, 7, 9 ?
-Available on DVD: no
B&W or color: color
-I own: no, partly TV recording ?
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: 3 young, blonde boys (motherless) in nice Western clothes and hats. Not sure about their names. One is probably Mickey Little (*1941, “Annie Oakley”, Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriett), others maybe Jimmy Karath (1942-2014) and Jerry Wayne. The latter one is credited as boy on IMDb but born in 1916. Probably another mistake there. The 3rd boy (on right ?) is obviously Lee Aaker (*1943, “Hondo“, The Brush Roper), up to rating 8.

Interesting movie, but I only have checked it roughly. I think, I have seen it many years ago. The boys also wore red striped bathing costumes.

Rating 5-6 for now. Boys are very young. Needs to be rechecked the next airing. I think not officially on DVD.

Treasure of Matecumbe

-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color

-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Blonde Johnny Doran in grey checkered pants with suspenders and also a dark suit, and black boy Billy ‘Pop’ Atmore in beige bib overalls (other blog, rating 5).

Interesting, but typical looking Disney Western. I didn’t had the time yet to watch the complete movie.

Rating 5-6 for now.

For more infos and pics see my other blog.

Novel by Robert Lewis Taylor (“The Travels of Jamie McPheeters”, also “Guns of Diablo

Johnny Doran also appeared in LHOTP (s4e6) and some other series like the “ABC Afterschool Specials” 1977 episode “The Pinballs” (bedroom blog, rating 7) and Salty, rating 6.

Back to Hannibal: The Return of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn

backtohannibal2backtohannibal2b

TV film about grown up Tom & Huck
-Year: 1990
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Marcus ~10 ?
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: medium- ?
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least Canadian Zachary Bennett in beige bib overalls and a straw hat (looking like Huck Finn, but isn’t)

As this is a story about grown up Tom and Huck, the setting must be around 1870s (or even later around 1900s).

This movie is now available on DVD, but I still haven’t seen it completetly.

One more pic, from an old, partial VHS recording on my bib overalls blog, rating 5.

The Man from the Alamo

manfromthealamomanfromthealamo2

Western starring Glenn Ford
-Year: 1953
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Carlos ~13, boy, girl
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: medium- ?
-Rating: 4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Marc Cavell (1939-2004) as Mexican boy Carlos in typical Mexican clothes (pic 2). Also at least a younger boy (maybe Erik Nelson) and girl (Patsy Weil ?) in at least 2 scenes. Pictured at the end.

Has been aired last week, but I missed most of it. I don’t like the Mexican teen boy in black, curly hair. The younger kids are more of interest.

But rather few scenes (of the younger kids).

So rating 3-4 only.

Update: Winnetous Rückkehr

winnetousrueckkehr5winnetousrueckkehr4

2 more pics, showing Timmy without the hat, looking much different, and also another Quaker boy and some girls. Pic 1 from the beginning of part 2.

Very good movie. I wish, I had recorded it. Obviously even worth buing on DVD, but I think, I’ll wait for the next broadcasting. I didn’t watch the long movie carefully. Handsome actors, also the Indian boys, I usually don’t like. Good plot.

Rating 7(-8) was correct. Main entry at
