Bad Little Angel

badlittleangel

Drama starring Virginia Weidler
-Year: 1939
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Patsy ~11, Bobby 5, boy ~16
-Available on DVD: no ?
B&W or color: b&w
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating: 3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Virginia Weidler as orphan and an older teen boy wearing Cowboy hats. There’s also 6 or 7 yo but older looking Mickey Kuhn as 5 yo Bobby, but probably not in Western clothers. This is not a Western.

I don’t know the complete movie and found it by coincidence.

More movies about Virginia Weidler on my pigtails blog.

Rating 3 for now for this scene. I think not officially on DVD.

Old Surehand

oldsurehandoldsurehand2

Western starring Pierre Brice
-Year: 1965
-Country: Germany, Yu
-Who in clothing: boys, girls ~5-10
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating: 3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Some boys and girls (but mainly younger boys) in typical clothes. Boys in pants with suspenders and girls in dresses, some with pigtails.

Part 3 of 4 from the recent Western special broadcasting day.

Typical German Winnetou Western, but I don’t like them and only noticed few good scenes of younger actors. Der Ölprinz (rating 5) has better scenes. Maybe they are even the same kids?

So rating 3-4 only.

Please also note my new 5th blog about Pigtails (f/m). Many of them are/will be Western movies as well.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

manwhoshotlibertyvalance

Western starring John Wayne
-Year: 1962
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boys, girls ~9
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: b&w
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating: 3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Some boys and girls, around 9yo, some few a bit younger, in an one-room schoolhouse. Mainly Mexican looking boys. Shirts and pants without suspenders. Also at least one older teen girl. Most or all have pigtails.

Part 2 of the recent Western TV weekend.

Typical b&w western. I think very few scenes of the kids. Also starring James Stewart.

Rating 2-3 for now only.

Gunsmoke (1955) s19e20

gunsmokes19e20bgunsmokes19e20

TV Western series 1955-1975
-Year: 1974
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Lester ~8
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: medium
-Rating: 3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: I think this is 8 or 9 yo Todd Lookinland aka Todd Lookingland (“The Brady Bunch”, probably the brother of Mike) in beige pants with suspenders and in a beige corduroy suit with a bow tie at the end. Several scenes with him.

I don’t like this young actor and his haircut. There are definitely better episodes. What else should I say about this? Nice one-room schoolhouse, but I don’t remember other kids here. Maybe I have missed the beginning (not sure).

Rating just 3-4 for this 1974 episode.

Main entry (rating 9) with some other kids

Hellfire (1949)

hellfire1949

Western starring Bill Elliott
-Year: 1949
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Doll ~29
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating: 3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: I think this must be Marie Windsor as fugitive Doll Brown in a vest, Cowboy hat and green scarf.

I have checked this some time ago and can’t say much more yet. 90 minutes Trucolor.

Obviously a typical Western for it’s time. I don’t remember younger actors in here.

So rating 2-3 for now only.

Buffalo Bill, Jr. – s1e2

buffalobilljr3buffalobilljr2

PD western series starring Dickie Jones
-Year: 1955-1956
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing:  Calamity ~10, Bobby 15
-Available on DVD: yes
-B&W or color: b&w
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating: 3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: One update of this series. Ep: Runaway Renegade (s1e2). Next to Nancy Gilbert as young Calamity Jane there’s also a teen boy, probably 15 yo Sammy Ogg (“The Adventures of Spin and Marty“). But he wears a typical shirt not that western / rodeo style like the girl.

Rating 3-4 for this episode. Main entry, currently rating 3 as well at

Snowfire (1958)

snowfire1958bsnowfire1958c

Western starring Don Megowan
-Year: 1957
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Molly ~11, Melody 15, woman
-Available on DVD: yes, MOD
B&W or color: color
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating: 3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Molly McGowan (1946-1965, pic 1+3) in nice rodeo-like Western clothes including a light blue blouse with dark blue shoulders, a yellow scarf, blue jeans and Cowboy boots (also shown shirtless). And an older blonde girl (probably her sister in real life Melody, pic 2) in similar but red clothes and both with a Cowboy hat. Also a woman (Claire Kelly) in jeans and Cowboy hat riding. Not sure if the girls riding as well.

I don’t know the complete movie, yet. Obviously a quite good family Western.

I don’t know boys in there.

So rating 3-4 only.

Shoot-Out at Medicine Bend

shoot-outatmedicinebendshoot-outatmedicinebend2

Western starring Randolph Scott
-Year: 1957
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boy ~11
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: b&w
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: very low ?
-Rating: 3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least this unknown boy at the beginning of the movie. Beige pants with suspenders, darker shirt and a dark, flat hat.

I found this by coincidence and can’t say much more.

I only noticed few and brief scenes at the beginning only. Often in the background.

Obviously a typical Western. B&w.

So rating 2-3 for now only.

Gunsmoke (1955) s18e21

gunsmoke-s18e21

TV Western series 1955-1975
-Year: 1973
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: John ~13?
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low *
-Rating: 3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: One older boy, I think this is Wendell Baker (aka Wendel Baker) in this episode in a brown suit, hat and string tie. I only noticed one very brief scene at the beginning.

Finally an “older” boy in this series. Quite handsome, but I prefer shorter hair. That hairstyle somehow reminds me of Ian Tracey as Huck Finn in 1979.

I don’t like these clean suits. Don’t look like real western clothes (pants with suspender or overalls). Few scenes, so rating 3 only.

He’s credited on IMDb as “man” even years earlier, so probably again a mistake, mixing up different actors of the same name.

Main entry rating up to 9

And R.I.P. Bud Spender.

7th Heaven

7thheaven-s10e19

Christian family series, 243 ep., 11 seasons
-Year: 1996-2007
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Sam, David ~9
-Available on DVD: yes
B&W or color: color
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating: 3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least the twins Sam and David (played by Lorenzo and Nikolas Brino, in fact the Brino quadruplets playing them) in checkered shirts and white cowboy hats in s10e19. Maybe other kids as well (Simon ?) in earlier episodes? But obviously very few scenes as this is not a Western series.

What else to say? Very good series (overalls blog rating 7) and bedroom blog rating 6 (the twins and others rating 4).

Rating 3-4 for this scene.
